Be Seen and Be Safe with our Lumos Cycling Helmet
More than two million people across the UK now cycle at least once a week, an all-time high according to British Cycling, the sport's governing body in the UK. For businesses in the cycling industry this means booming sales and that’s not just bikes. Cycling clothing and accessories manufacturers and suppliers have also benefited from the big increase in the number of people cycling, and that includes the sale of bike helmets.
Most media reports on the growing number of cyclists on the road focus on the so-called "mamils", which stands for "middle aged men in Lycra" but while this is still a core group, generally people taking up cycling these days tend to be a bit younger. This generation also tends to be very safety conscious which is why cycle helmet sales have increased so dramatically.
To put this into perspective, according to ROSPA, on British Roads an average of 102 cyclists are killed each year with around 3,397 suffering serious injuries and 14,978 with slight injuries. Although these injuries can vary, head injury has been identified as an important cause of death and serious injury in cycling. And there’s no doubt that the only way to prevent or reduce the extent of a head injury in a cycle accident is to wear a cycle helmet.
Lumos Helmet
At Activewear Clothing, we don’t only stock a range of cycle wear from undiscovered brands such as Primal, but we are also pleased to offer our cycling customers a top of the range, unique helmet from the Lumos brand. This high-tech helmet was developed by engineers who themselves loved cycling but wanted to improve the experience whilst keeping safe on the road. Lumos is the world’s first smart bicycle helmet which integrates front and rear lights, hard brake, and turn signals into a single item of head gear.
In fact, the product is deemed so innovative that it has been named the Oprah Winfrey ‘Product of 2018’ AND Time magazine ‘Invention of 2018’.
The rational behind this product is increased visibility of the cyclist wearing the helmet to help to keep them as safe as possible no matter what the weather or conditions. To this end, the Lumos helmet is integrated with super LED lights in the front and solid red LED lights in the back to make the cyclist highly visible on the road. What’s more, the triangular shape of the back lights helps other road users gauge their distance from the cyclist better.
The helmet is also fitted with bright left and right turn signals that cyclists can activate via a wireless remote to enhance hand signals when turning. Importantly, the Lumos Helmet senses when a cyclist is slowing down and turns all the lights on the back of the helmet a solid red to give vehicles behind the cyclist an extra warning.
MIPS Technology
In terms of protection, the Lumos help is manufactured using MIPS technology which is scientifically proven to reduce rotational motion by absorbing and redirecting rotational energies and forces transferred to the brain from angled impacts to the head. The helmet also meets the rigorous safety standards of the EN1078 (Europe).
The Lumos can be worn in any weather and comes with a rechargeable battery and magnetic charging cable. What’s more, cyclists can get the most out of the helmet by downloading the Lumos app which tracks activity and syncs with other health apps.
As a result of these features, and the excellent selling price of this helmet, it’s no wonder the Lumos helmet is one of Activemen Clothing’s best sellers. But you don’t have to take our word for it, check out this review on Cycling Weekly magazine and form your own opinion.
